Dancing with the Solvang Village Folk Dancers; Saturday Nights,
7:00pm-10:00pm, (except Third Saturdays of
each month when dance lessons
and performances are from 1-3 pm

& Copenhagen streets). Jonata School in Buellton. FREE. Open to all ages

November/December Winterfest Celebration
Season’s Greetings from the European Christmas
Village of Solvang....Winterfest begins in mid- November and continues
until Christmas....a Yule-tide celebration of special events, pageantry,
Santa Claus and thousands of twinkling lights. This year’s theme:
Home for the Holidays....Celebrating Family Traditions in Solvang

tall gingerbread house using 250 lbs. of gingerbread dough, 150 lbs.
of powdered sugar, and 3 gallons of egg whites. Come by and
enjoy the delightful sight and smell of this unique creation!

“VILLAGE of
LIGHTS”
For its annual Julefest (Winterfest)
Celebration, the “Danish Capital of America” Solvang,
California, has transformed into a
European-style Christmas village now through January 9, 2009.
Solvang village streets are illuminated with thousands of
twinkle lights, carolers emerge around corners to enhance the
authentic scene and dozens of special performances and open
houses are being held. Events are free and open to the public
(except where admission fee is specifically noted). |

Dec. 5 Friday, - 5 PM tree-lighting ceremony,
presided over by Olympic gold medalist
Todd Rogers of Solvang and his partner in men's beach volleyball, Phil
Dalhausser.
The ceremony in Solvang Park at Mission Drive /First Street includes
musical entertainment,
refreshments and caroling followed by arrival of Santa Claus.
Dec. 6 Saturday, - Solvang’s-one-of-a-kind,
hometown parade. 11AM with Todd Rogers, Phil Dalhausser and their
families as grand marshals. (Gold Metal Olympian winners)
Entries include Danish dancers, musical groups and an appearance of
Santa Claus.
The parade originates at Mission Santa Ines, travels W on Mission Drive,
turns left on 4th St, turns left again on Copenhagen Dr, and returns to
Alisal Rd to end at the
Post Office.

Dec 12 Friday, - 6PM in Solvang Park,
6:00 PM, Solvang Park, corner of Mission Dr. (HWY 246) and First St.
downtown. World premiere presentation of a delightful fun filled theatre
experience performed by PCPA (Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts)
students. A troupe of wandering actors processes through the streets
leading to Solvang Park where they gather to put on an impromptu-style
theatre experience. Told mostly in verse, Santa Lucia and her friends
Starboy, Tompte and others use movement/dance and the audience's
imagination to enjoy the Scandinavian holiday, Santa Lucia Day. You'll
learn about who Santa Lucia was, why December 13th is important and what
a typical Santa Lucia day is like for a little girl. It promises to be
entertaining, educational and a fun experience for children and adults.
Dec 13 Sat, - the Christmas story comes to life
in a nativity pageant at the outdoor Solvang
Festival Theater at 420 Second St. that will include a choir, actors in
traditional costumes and live
animals on stage. The 2 free performances will be at 5 PM and 7 PM
with first-come, first-served seating. In the unlikely event of
rain, performances will be cancelled.
Dec 19 Fri, - New this season, a winter solstice
party will feature candle lighting, carolers and singing to mark the
shortest day of the year. The festive celebration will be at 6PM
in Solvang Park on Mission Drive.
Many more open houses, holiday musicals and special events will take
place throughout the season.

Olde Fashioned Christmas in Los Olivos-- All the galleries and
businesses in this neighboring town host open houses as the town glows
