The Solvang Centennial Committee announces a call for logo design concepts for the Solvang Centennial
Celebration
. Proposals are requested from graphic designers, artists and students for an appropriate logo tobe used to promote the 100 year celebration of the establishment of Solvang. This logo should reflect the
mission statement of the Centennial Celebration and be an appropriate trademark for this event.
A cash prize of $1,000.00 will be presented to the artist/ designer of the logo that is selected by the
committee.
PROSPECTUS AND RULES OF ENTRY
Mission Statement
The Solvang Centennial Committee has been organized to honor and promote the 100 years of Solvang’s
existence as a community that blends Danish culture and heritage into a quality of life and visitor experience
through a yearlong series of events for the enrichment of past and current residents and visitors.
Eligibility/ Who May Enter
All graphic designers, artists and students. Work must be original; no reproductions are allowed.
Logo Use
This logo will be placed on a variety of print advertising, promotional media and advertising products
including T-shirts, mugs, pennants, etc. The original concept logo should be in color and also have the
ability to be produced in grayscale without losing essential elements.
The logo will become the property of the Solvang Centennial Committee and will be licensed by the
committee to approved vendors for widespread use to promote this year-long celebration. A signed
artist’s release form will be required.
Logo Design
It is important that the artist or designer be familiar with the unique cultural and historical fabric of the
community of Solvang and that an appropriate logo would honor this heritage. Logo must include the words
“Solvang Centennial” and the dates “1911-2011”.
Selection and Prize
All entries must be received on or before April 30, 2009. The Solvang Centennial Selection Committee will
review all submissions no later than May 20, 2009. After review of the submissions the committee will take
one of three actions:
1. Select a logo from the submissions.
2. Select a logo that most closely represents the theme and request minor revisions in format
3. Make a request for additional submissions

Following committee selection of a logo, the artist/designer will receive a $1,000.00 prize at a special
presentation ceremony in June. The acceptance and adoption of this logo will be widely publicized with
special recognition for the artist/designer.
SUBMISSION FORMAT & MATERIALS
Format
Artists or designers may submit multiple concepts or variations of a concept. Please be aware of scaling of
the logo image because it will be used in a variety of sizes from small print on an envelope or business card
to a large print on a T-shirt, banner or other items. It should be discernable and readable at any scale. Logo
should also include the words “Solvang Centennial” and the years 1911-2011 in some form.
Paper submissions
Submissions on a white 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper in both color and grayscale will be accepted. If the logo is
hand drawn in color it should be scanned and printed in grayscale.
Digital submissions
Each image should be a minimum of 300 dpi and must be labeled with the artist/designer’s name. Image(s)
may be submitted via email OR on one CD, labeled with name and contact information.
